Migration Agency Staff Suspected of Embezzling Budget Funds

The Department for Combating Economic Crimes within the Prosecutor General's Office has announced that personnel from Uzbekistan's Migration Agency, operating under the Cabinet of Ministers, are under suspicion of embezzling close to 1 billion soums from the state budget.

The department reported that two Tashkent-based employees received 931.6 million soums in total salary payments during a period when they were not actively fulfilling their professional responsibilities.

Furthermore, the department stated that an additional 88.5 million soums was disbursed to eight employees who had previously faced disciplinary actions.

A criminal investigation has been initiated under Article 167 of Uzbekistan's Criminal Code, pertaining to embezzlement through the misappropriation or misapplication of entrusted assets. The inquiry remains active.
