Man told friend 'I don't mind dying' before Isis trip
The court heard Mohamoud arranged to meet up with a man in Somalia and join Isis together.
A man facing charges of traveling from the UK to Somalia to become an Isis martyr reportedly told a friend he had no issue with "dying," a court has heard.
Mohamed Mohamoud, 22, who was residing in Bristol at the time of his arrest, is currently on trial at Winchester Crown Court. He is accused of preparing acts of terrorism between October 1, 2024, and March 5, 2025.
Prosecutor Naomi Parsons informed the jury on Wednesday that Mohamoud, a Somali national, arrived in the UK in 2020 to live with his mother and brother in Bristol.
The court was told that in the period leading up to his January 2025 trip to Somalia, Mohamoud frequently exchanged messages with a man in the African country, making arrangements to meet and join the terrorist group together.
Mohamoud denies the charge.
Previously, the court heard that he traveled to Somalia in January 2025 but returned to the UK on March 3 after failing to connect with the Isis group.
Ten days before his flight to Somalia, an exchange of messages between Mohamoud and the other man, Abu Ladin, was presented to the court.
Mohamoud messaged Ladin: "I did not manage to find someone to guide me yet to help me travel and join the mujahidin. What advice do you have for me? I am leaving and I do not have any plan."
Ladin responded: "There is no route now, there is a war going on. It can take a month or a year, a route will be found only when the situation settles down. My advice to you is speak to the mujahidin and do not trust anyone else."
Ladin later messaged: "I swear, it is dangerous. You are my brother and I would advise to you stay there."
The court was informed that Mohamoud sent another message to Ladin stating: "Today I do not find dying a problem. I am not someone who has suffered hardship, I have never even slept hungry one night."
He added that he felt he would be "punished" if he abandoned his plan, stating: "Abandoning jihad is a serious matter."
Mohamoud, of Francombe Grove in Bristol, originates from the Puntland area of north Somalia.
He denies the charge, and the trial is ongoing.
