Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.uz) –

A. M., a 31-year-old Uzbek national, has received a three-year prison sentence from the Yakkabag District Criminal Court, which determined his culpability in mercenary activities.

Based on the evidence presented, the individual journeyed to Russia for employment in December 2022. Subsequently, he was convicted of possessing narcotics and given a sentence of nine years and six months in prison.

The defendant informed the court that during his incarceration, he was coerced into participating in the armed conflict between Russia and Ukraine. He stated that he experienced duress at the correctional institution and was repeatedly placed in solitary confinement. Consequently, in August 2025, he entered into a one-year military service agreement.

As per his statement, he was assured a lump sum payment of 1.2 million roubles, a monthly income of 210,000 roubles, Russian citizenship, and the expungement of his criminal record following one year of service.

While engaged in combat, the man sustained grave injuries. Shrapnel wounds resulted in the loss of vision in his left eye. After being moved to a hospital, he departed the medical facility and reached out to the Embassy of Uzbekistan in Moscow.

Upon obtaining a certificate authorizing his return, he traveled back to Uzbekistan. During the proceedings, he fully confessed his guilt and requested a more lenient punishment from the court.

The court convicted A. M. under Part 1 of Article 154 of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Uzbekistan ("Mercenary Activities") and imposed a three-year prison sentence.
