Irish police seize more than 160 e-scooters

Gardaí have been conducting a "high-impact day of action" under Operation Meacán in the Dublin Metropolitan Region.

Irish law enforcement officials have confiscated over 160 e-scooters as part of a recent operation.

An Garda Síochána, Ireland's police force, carried out a "high-impact day of action" on Tuesday within the Dublin Metropolitan Region, dubbed Operation Meacán. This initiative resulted in 96 searches, leading to the seizure of 166 e-bikes and e-scooters, seven e-dirt bikes, four scrambler motorcycles, and three quad vehicles.

Of the individuals apprehended, four out of five have since been charged. Authorities also discovered €25,820 in cash, an estimated €158,000 worth of suspected illicit drugs, a sawn-off shotgun, and ammunition.

Operation Meacán, launched in December 2023, specifically targets the utilization of electric motorbikes, e-scooters, and e-bikes in criminal endeavors.
