Government steps in with UZS 5bn to support Bunyodkor FC
Tashkent's Bunyodkor FC has received UZS 5 billion in government funding after the club warned that severe financial difficulties could prevent it from fulfilling its fixtures in the Uzbekistan Super League.
Bunyodkor FC is set to receive UZS 5 billion in government funding, the club announced on its Telegram channel. This allocation, made under a presidential resolution from March 24, 2026, is intended to enhance financing mechanisms within the sports sector and increase private business involvement.
The club's statement read, "Practical support from our government has begun to reach the club. Yesterday, under Presidential Resolution No. PP-107 of March 24, 2026, on improving financing mechanisms in the sports sector and expanding the participation of business entities, UZS 5 billion was allocated to Bunyodkor Football Club."
Bunyodkor FC stated that this financial aid will enable the team to proceed with its scheduled preparations for upcoming Super League matches.
This announcement follows earlier reports indicating that Bunyodkor had informed the Professional Football League of Uzbekistan (PFL) of potential difficulties in traveling to Navoi region for their August 2 away match against Qizilqum in the 15th round of the Super League, citing a lack of funds. The club's letter to the league specified insufficient funds to cover travel expenses, hotel accommodation, and meals for the team delegation during the trip.
The funding offers a temporary solution for one of Uzbekistan's most accomplished football clubs, which has been grappling with significant financial challenges in recent months.
