Bunyodkor FC unable to afford away trip, faces technical defeat

Bunyodkor FC is set to incur a technical defeat in its upcoming match due to an inability to finance the away trip. The 15th-round game was slated for August 2.

The club communicated its financial distress to the PFL via letter, stating that it can no longer cover the costs associated with transporting, housing, and feeding its team delegation for away fixtures.

The PFL has indicated that, in accordance with Super League rules, Bunyodkor will be issued a technical defeat for not appearing at the match against Qizilqum. Should a similar situation arise again this season, the club's potential expulsion from the Super League will be brought before the league's Executive Committee for review.

Murod Aliyev, Bunyodkor's General Director, verified to Kun.uz that the club's financial woes have escalated to the point where it cannot afford travel for domestic league games.

Aliyev reported that the club secured UZS 10 billion in funding during the first quarter of the year and generated approximately UZS 11 billion from rental and other contractual agreements. Nevertheless, he stated these funds were inadequate to re-establish the club's financial health.

"Players and staff have not received their salaries for six to seven months. Furthermore, the debt to Rivaldo remains our obligation," Aliyev disclosed.

He further explained that the club is currently bearing the cost of three years of unpaid wages owed to former Brazilian football star Rivaldo, with this financial commitment totaling UZS 26 billion each year.

"We are actively seeking a resolution to this issue. We intend to request assistance from our president," Aliyev added.

Following 14 rounds of the current Super League season, Bunyodkor holds the 10th position in the standings with 19 points.

Previously, FIFA had imposed a transfer ban on Bunyodkor due to its outstanding debt to Rivaldo.
