Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.uz) —

Uzbekistan's Bunyod Khasanov has made history by claiming the gold medal at the U17 World Greco-Roman Wrestling Championship in Baku, becoming the first Uzbek athlete to achieve two world titles in this age division.

The 16-year-old, who was crowned world champion last year in the under-48 kg category, successfully transitioned to the under-51 kg weight class for this tournament. He dominated his competition, winning all four of his matches, three of which he concluded early due to technical superiority. His sole bout that went the full duration resulted in a 6-2 victory. Throughout the championship, Khasanov amassed 25 points while conceding only four to his opponents.

In the final match, the Uzbek wrestler squared off against Abdurrahman Huseynli of Azerbaijan, a bronze medalist from the previous world championship. Khasanov quickly asserted control, earning a passivity warning against Huseynli before executing a powerful back-arch throw for points. He continued to extend his lead, ultimately securing a decisive 9-0 victory.

In the team standings, Uzbekistan's national team finished in fourth place with 85 points, 11 points behind third-place Iran. Russia emerged as the tournament champions, with Azerbaijan securing second place.

Sadriddin Tulkinboyev also contributed to Uzbekistan's medal tally, earning a bronze in the under-60 kg weight class. He defeated Romania's Alexandru Lungu with a score of 10-2 in the third-place match.

Other world champions crowned in their respective weight categories included Rylan Wax of the United States (under-45 kg), Amirreza Tahmasbpour of Iran (under-60 kg), Janes Nazaryan of Armenia (under-71 kg), and Tomasz Mital of Poland (under-92 kg).
