Bakhtiyor Saidov Meets Indian Lower House Speaker Om Birla

Foreign Minister Bakhtiyor Saidov met with Indian Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla on 4 August 2026 to discuss bilateral strategic partnership and parliamentary ties.

Uzbekistan’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Bakhtiyor Saidov, held a meeting with Om Birla, the Speaker of India’s Lok Sabha (the lower house of parliament), in Tashkent on August 4, 2026.

The discussion between the two officials centered on advancing inter-parliamentary collaboration and reinforcing the strategic partnership between Uzbekistan and India. A key focus of their talks was the significant role parliamentary diplomacy plays in broadening bilateral ties.

Both parties explored avenues for intensifying inter-parliamentary dialogue, increasing the engagement of parliamentary friendship groups, and facilitating the exchange of legislative expertise.

Minister Saidov characterized the meeting as having occurred in a "warm and constructive atmosphere."

Speaker Birla, for his part, referenced his previous visit to Uzbekistan last year and reiterated his appreciation for the welcome and hospitality extended during the 150th anniversary Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union.
