Why sometimes you should do nothing? A psychologist explained the beneficial side of laziness

Why is it sometimes useful to do nothing? The psychologist explained the positive aspects of laziness.

Psychologist Kira Goldstein notes that after prolonged stress, the body simply needs time to rest, to recover from doing nothing. Therefore, laziness can sometimes be a natural need of the nervous system.

According to the psychologist, laziness and procrastination are not the same thing. During a healthy rest, a person deliberately postpones his work and feels that his strength is restored. With procrastination, a person wants to complete a task, but avoids starting it due to fear of making a mistake or striving for perfection.

The expert notes that if a person feels even heavier after "lying around doing nothing" all day, this is probably a sign of severe fatigue, and in such cases it is recommended to consult a specialist.

"Rest is not the opposite of life. It's a part of it, and at such times, a person does not have to slow down and prove that they have the right to rest," Goldstein emphasized.

According to Goldstein, if a person is truly tired, it is better to put down the phone and just lie down. Spending two hours on social media and at the same time thinking about unfinished business will not help the body fully recover.
