Why a driving license is required for mopeds and scooters has been explained

The requirement of a driving license to operate mopeds, scooters, and other small-capacity motor vehicles is not without reason. Statistics on traffic accidents and violations show that the risks associated with this type of transport are increasing. This was reported by Zoir Yuldoshev, head of the Information Service of the State Traffic Safety Service.

According to him, in the first 9 months of 2026, 563 traffic accidents involving mopeds and scooters were recorded. As a result, 488 people were injured and 89 people died.

The number of violations has also risen sharply. While nearly 300 cases of traffic rule violations by moped and scooter drivers were detected during 2025, this figure reached 4,312 in the elapsed period of 2026.

Additionally, in 162 cases, drivers were found to be operating a moped or scooter both without the relevant documents and while intoxicated.

Zoir Yuldoshev emphasized that the presented figures demonstrate the need to strengthen safety requirements in the operation of mopeds, scooters, and other small-capacity motor vehicles.
