A "state of catastrophe" has been declared in Coquimbo and Huasco following the downpour.
Chilean authorities have declared a state of catastrophe for the Coquimbo region and Huasco province, following intense rainfall that unleashed widespread floods and mudslides. Local mayors have reported at least five fatalities.
