Uzbekistan’s Surkhandarya, China’s United Energy Group consider LNG production project

The Surkhandarya region of Uzbekistan and China's United Energy Group are exploring a potential liquefied natural gas (LNG) production project. Discussions between the parties have encompassed investment, infrastructure, technology, and prospective markets for the proposed output.

Ulugbek Kasimov, the governor of Surkhandarya, met with a United Energy Group delegation to deliberate on collaborative efforts in developing and processing the region's oil and gas reserves. A primary focus of these talks was the potential execution of an LNG production project, along with its associated technical and economic prerequisites.

The introduction of contemporary technologies and the upgrade of existing production facilities were also discussed, as were opportunities to enhance the production of higher-value-added products from existing energy resources.

Infrastructure needs for the proposed LNG project were part of the discussions. The parties considered potential investment figures, technological approaches, and arrangements for securing the necessary raw materials for production. The meeting also addressed potential markets for the project's manufactured products, including both domestic sales and exports. However, specific target markets, production volumes, and potential buyers were not identified.

Currently, the project is in the assessment phase. Following their meeting, Surkhandarya authorities and United Energy Group committed to further analyzing its technical and economic parameters. The parties will also evaluate available resources and, based on these findings, determine potential subsequent stages of cooperation.
