Uzbekistan's State Security Service has revealed details of a case involving mephedrone from Thailand hidden in wine bottles.

The State Security Service of Uzbekistan has released additional details regarding the smuggling of mephedrone from Thailand disguised as wine.

Following the arrest of two Uzbek citizens who attempted to smuggle mephedrone in wine bottles, the SSS provided new details of the operation. In addition to the synthetic drug, the detainees were found in possession of hashish oil and solvents. The intended recipient of the shipment was subsequently detained.

As a reminder, security officers at Tashkent Aero Airport previously discovered glass and aluminum containers containing mephedrone in the luggage of a 22-year-old native of Jizzakh and a 33-year-old resident of the capital, who arrived on a flight from Bangkok.

The operation was not concluded at this stage. During a search of the detainees' residences in Tashkent, law enforcement officers seized 1.5 liters of hashish oil and 8 liters of solvents.

Investigators continued to identify other participants in the criminal scheme and detained a 29-year-old native of the Jizzakh region, who was targeted for a drug shipment in Tashkent. 635 grams of Alpha-PVP were found on him.

A criminal case has been opened against those detained under the smuggling law. Such crimes carry prison sentences of 10 to 20 years. The investigation is ongoing.

Previously, the banned substances were found in a baby juice container.
