Uzbekistan's gold and foreign exchange reserves decreased by 7.7% or $5.5 billion in September, amounting to $66.6 billion as of October 1. The foreign currency portion of the reserves decreased by $702 million, while the value of the gold portion fell by $4.8 billion. In turn, the physical volume of gold increased to 14.3 million troy ounces. This is a historical maximum.

Uzbekistan's gold and foreign exchange reserves decreased by nearly $5.5 billion in September, amounting to $66.6 billion as of October 1.
During the past month, the foreign currency portion of the reserves decreased by $702 million, while the value of the gold portion fell by $4.8 billion. At the same time, the physical volume of gold in the reserves increased from 14.1 million troy ounces to 14.3 million troy ounces. This is considered a historical maximum. As a result, the share of gold in international reserves exceeded 90 percent.
The portfolio of securities in which the regulator invested also decreased from $1 billion 765 million to $1 billion 691 million.
"The volume of gross international reserves of the Republic of Uzbekistan decreased by $5.5 billion in September 2026. In particular, the impact of the fall in gold prices from $4,602 to $4,188.75 during the month amounted to -$5.9 billion," the Central Bank's commentary says.
