Uzbekistan’s Automotive Market Maintains Stable Activity – CERR

In August this year, the secondary market accounted for around half (50.2%) of total passenger car sales. At the same time, domestically produced vehicles made the main contribution to growth.

Uzbekistan’s Automotive Market Remains Stable – CERR

The Center for Economic Research and Reforms regularly reviews trends in Uzbekistan’s automotive market. The analysis covers the main segments of the market as well as regional developments.

In August, sales of all types of motor vehicles — including the primary market, secondary market and electric vehicles — exceeded 79 thousand units, staying virtually unchanged from the previous month.

**Passenger Car Market**

Passenger car sales in August totaled 62.5 thousand units, up 2.2% from the previous month.

**Regional Dynamics**

During the month, motor vehicle sales rose in 9 of the country’s 14 regions. The strongest growth was seen in Bukhara Region (19.1%), Tashkent Region (11.9%) and Khorezm Region (10.8%).

The sharpest declines compared with the previous month were recorded in Tashkent city (-10.1%), Andijan Region (-2.7%) and Fergana Region (-2.1%).

**Primary Passenger Car Market**

Sales of new passenger cars climbed 20.5% over the month to 30.6 thousand units. The main driver of this increase was domestically produced vehicles, whose sales rose by almost 25% to 25.3 thousand units.

Sales of new foreign-made vehicles reached 5.3 thousand units, 7% higher than in the previous month.

**Secondary Passenger Car Market**

Over the month, sales of used passenger cars fell 10.8% to almost 32 thousand units.

**Electric Vehicle Market**

In August, electric vehicle sales in the primary and secondary markets totaled 9.2 thousand units, remaining at the same level as the previous month.

Activity increased in most regions of the country. The largest number of electric vehicles sold was in Tashkent city (6.3 thousand), Fergana Region (662 units) and Tashkent Region (455 units).

Electric vehicle sales remain heavily concentrated in Tashkent. The capital accounted for 68.5% of the total market.

At the same time, compared with the same period last year, electric vehicle sales rose by 44.5%.
