Uzbekistan to host first Central Asia Student Sports Forum on September 29

Uzbekistan will host the 1st Student Sport Forum of Central Asia from September 29 to October 2, 2026, gathering representatives of university sports organizations from across the region. According to media agency UzA, the forum will be held as part of a visit to Uzbekistan by Leonz Eder, President of the International University Sports Federation (FISU).

The forum will examine Uzbekistan’s experience in developing university sports, current issues affecting student sports, and ways to strengthen cooperation among Central Asian countries. Representatives of the FISU leadership are expected to take part, along with officials from university sports federations of Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Mongolia, Tajikistan and Turkmenistan.

Participants will discuss methods for developing and promoting student sports, the challenges currently facing the sector, and prospects for deeper cooperation among the participating countries. The forum is also expected to serve as a venue for sharing experience among national university sports organizations and for discussing regional cooperation in the field.

During his visit to Uzbekistan, Eder will also attend the opening ceremony of the Five Initiatives Olympiad. The forum is set to end on October 2.

Established in 1949, the International University Sports Federation (FISU) promotes university sport around the world through international sporting and educational events for students. It also operates initiatives including the Healthy Campus programme, which supports physical health and mental wellbeing at universities.
