Uzbekistan has 601,300 active enterprises and organizations

As of August 1, 2026, Uzbekistan recorded a total of 601,300 active enterprises and organizations, according to the National Statistics Committee of the Republic of Uzbekistan. This figure includes 440,900 small enterprises and microfirms, which constitute 73.3% of the total, excluding farms and dehkan farms.

The number of active enterprises and organizations has shown an increase from 587,500 on the same date in 2022 to 601,300 in 2026, though this growth was not consistent. The count decreased to 490,900 in 2023 before rebounding to 553,100 in 2024, 556,000 in 2025, and finally reaching 601,300 in 2026. The year-on-year growth rate for 2026 stood at 108.1%.

Breaking down the total, 445,697 were identified as business entities, with 440,949 of these being small business entities. Additionally, there were 91,525 farms and dehkan farms.

Tashkent city held the largest proportion of active enterprises and organizations, accounting for 19.1% of the total, or 114,839 enterprises. It was followed by Tashkent region with 9.5% (57,004 enterprises), Samarkand region with 9.2% (55,449 enterprises), Ferghana region with 8.4%, and Kashkadarya region with 7.7%. Syrdarya region registered the lowest number, with 17,108 enterprises.

In terms of economic activity as of August 1, 2026, trade represented the largest share, with 27.4% or 164,481 enterprises. Agriculture, forestry, and fisheries came in second with 21.9% (131,925 enterprises), while industry ranked third with 10.6% (63,861 enterprises). These three sectors collectively accounted for over 59.9% of all enterprises and organizations. Other sectors included construction (5.5% or 33,163 enterprises), accommodation and food services (5.6% or 33,966), transportation and storage (3.1% or 18,894), healthcare and social services (2.6% or 15,341), information and communications (2.3% or 13,705), and other activities (20.9% or 125,940).

Among the organizational and legal structures of business entities, limited liability companies were predominant, making up 80.1% (356,812) of the 445,700 active commercial enterprises as of August 1, 2026. Private enterprises constituted 10.6% (47,241), family enterprises 8.4% (37,345), joint-stock companies 0.1% (646), and other forms 0.8% (3,653).

The number of active enterprises with foreign investment reached 20,973 by August 1, 2026. This total comprised 4,685 joint ventures and 16,288 companies with 100% foreign capital. Over the past five years, the total number of such enterprises increased 1.7 times, with the proportion of companies exclusively funded by foreign capital rising from 56.0% to 77.7%.

Compared to the same period in 2025, enterprises with foreign investment saw an increase of 4,364, or 26.3%. Notable increases were observed in trade (from 5,960 to 7,450 enterprises), industry (from 3,449 to 4,098), and construction (from 1,248 to 1,732).

Tashkent city hosted the largest share of enterprises with foreign capital, accounting for 62.5% (13,114 enterprises). It was followed by Tashkent region with 13.8% (2,901), Samarkand region with 3.6% (754), and Ferghana region with 3.1% (659).

By economic activity, trade led among enterprises with foreign investment, with 7,450 companies, followed by industry with 4,098, information and communications with 1,764, and construction with 1,732.

China was the leading investor country by the number of active enterprises with foreign capital, contributing 6,241 companies, or 29.8% of the total. Russia followed with 3,512 enterprises (16.7%), Türkiye with 2,327 (11.1%), Kazakhstan with 1,321 (6.3%), South Korea with 730 (3.5%), and Afghanistan with 706 (3.4%). Other countries on the list included Azerbaijan (492), Tajikistan (467), the United Arab Emirates (453), India (439), Kyrgyzstan (376), Pakistan (361), the United States (368), Turkmenistan (322), Belarus (262), the United Kingdom (258), Iran (255), Germany (248), Ukraine (223), and Japan (143).

The committee's methodological explanations state that information on enterprises and organizations is compiled from the Unified State Register of Enterprises and Organizations, in accordance with Resolution No. 539 of the Cabinet of Ministers of the Republic of Uzbekistan dated September 28, 2022. The data, including farms and dehkan farms, were sourced from the Ministry of Justice’s Public Services Center database as of August 1, 2026.
