Uzbekistan expands cooperation with UN scientific institutions in the water sector

Uzbekistan seeks to expand cooperation with UN scientific institutions in the field of water.

As part of World Water Week 2026, Deputy Head of the Presidential Administration Timur Butunbayev met with Professor Kaveh Madani, Director of the UN University Institute for Water, Environment and Health (UNU-INWEH).

This dialogue was a logical continuation of the agreements reached at the previous meeting in New York. The parties discussed issues of conducting joint scientific research, establishing academic exchange and training programs, as well as widely promoting Uzbekistan's experience in the water sector internationally.

The meeting noted that under the leadership of President Shavkat Mirziyoyev, the issue of water has become one of the strategic priorities of Uzbekistan's state policy. Sustainable financing, training, digitalization and the introduction of innovations in the field are being implemented within the framework of a single state policy.

As a result, significant practical results are being achieved in the widespread introduction of water-saving technologies, digitalization of water management and modernization of infrastructure.

The parties paid special attention to focusing cooperation with UNU-INWEH on specific and measurable results, including the implementation of joint scientific and practical projects.

The prospects for promoting Uzbekistan's experience in global initiatives within the framework of the UN Water Conference and the international implementation of solutions based on science, modern technologies and effective management in conditions of water scarcity were also considered.
