Uzbekistan Discusses Improving Investment Climate in IT

Uzbekistan has reviewed steps to increase the investment attractiveness of the IT sector and facilitate the entry of foreign companies into the local market.

Minister of Digital Technologies Sherzod Shermatov discussed investment attraction issues at a meeting with representatives of the office of the Advisor to the President of Uzbekistan, S. Chakrabarti. This was reported by the Ministry of Digital Technologies.

The talks were also attended by legal advisor Marie-Anne Birken and strategic communications and international branding expert Jonathan Charles.

The parties discussed creating more comfortable conditions for foreign investors, improving capital attraction mechanisms, and developing cooperation between organizations operating in this field.

Closer coordination between structures involved in attracting investment in various sectors and regions of the country was named as one of the key areas. The participants noted the importance of information exchange and the formation of a unified approach that is clear to investors.

Special attention was paid to small and medium-sized foreign companies. In particular, the simplification of procedures for their entry into the Uzbek market was discussed.

In addition, the meeting participants considered the possibility of applying approaches already used in the IT sector when interacting with investors to other industries. It was emphasized that supporting an investor at all stages — from market entry to project implementation — is of great importance for improving the investment climate.

The parties also discussed the interaction of Enterprise Uzbekistan with other investment platforms. The discussion focused on coordinating their activities and providing investors with accurate and systematized information about available opportunities.

Following the meeting, it was agreed to continue joint work, prepare practical proposals to improve mechanisms for attracting investment to the IT sector, and strengthen cooperation between relevant organizations.
