Uzbekistan and Chinese companies discuss construction and heat supply projects
Uzbekistan held talks with Chinese companies on cooperation in construction, heat supply and communal infrastructure projects, including the possible introduction of prefabricated construction, cogeneration facilities and geothermal heat pump technologies.
The parties discussed cooperation in construction and housing and communal services, the introduction of modern technologies and possible investment projects. The areas considered included prefabricated and industrial construction solutions, green building materials, steel structure production and the implementation of projects under EPC arrangements.
The meeting also touched on potential projects based on EPC+F and public-private partnership mechanisms. In the heat supply sector, the sides looked at modernization of existing systems, construction of cogeneration plants and modern heat centers, as well as the introduction of geothermal heat pump technologies. The parties agreed to exchange information on potential heat supply projects in Uzbekistan. Chinese companies are expected to study the projects and prepare proposals on financing and terms of cooperation.
The discussions also covered Chinese standards and technical requirements for prefabricated construction. The sides considered technologies aimed at improving construction efficiency and reducing the environmental impact of construction processes. After the meeting, the parties agreed to continue negotiations, exchange project and technical documentation and develop cooperation mechanisms for specific projects.
Geothermal heat pumps use heat stored in the ground to provide heating and cooling for buildings. Underground temperatures stay relatively stable throughout the year, allowing the systems to extract heat for buildings in winter and provide cooling in summer. The systems run on electricity but are designed to use less energy for heating and cooling than conventional methods.
Uzbekistan launched its first geothermal heat pump technology in Khorezm region in May 2025. According to the Ministry of Energy, work has been underway to study the technology and expand its use. Local specialists have been researching its operation and design, as well as its potential for future production in Uzbekistan.
