Uzbekistan was one of the countries where the filming of the movie about Molla Nasreddin took place.

The final stage of production on the film "Molla Nasreddin: Friend of Hard Days" has begun in Kazakhstan. Filming previously took place in five Turkic states, including Uzbekistan, and the dialogue in the film will be spoken in six languages. The final episodes will be shot in Almaty, the Almaty region, and Turkestan.
The feature-length film will tell the story of Molla Nasreddin, one of the most famous characters in Eastern folklore, whose stories are filled with humor, worldly wisdom, and satire. The creators of the project aim to use his character to demonstrate the common cultural motifs and traditions of the Turkic peoples.
The film crew has already visited Azerbaijan, Turkey, Kyrgyzstan, Turkmenistan, and Uzbekistan. Now, work has moved to Kazakhstan. Key locations include Almaty, the Almaty region, and Turkestan. Some scenes are planned to be filmed at the Khoja Ahmed Yasawi Mausoleum.
The idea for the project emerged from the 40th meeting of the Permanent Council of Ministers of Culture of TURKSOY, held in 2023 in Shusha.
People's Artist of Azerbaijan Vagif Mustafayev served as director and screenwriter. Honored Artist of Kazakhstan Sagyzbay Karabalin will portray Khoja Nasreddin. The cast also includes Konysbek Bekaidarov, Ondasyn Beksikbasov, and Akerke Arys.
A distinctive feature of the film is its multilingualism. The characters will communicate in Kazakh, Azerbaijani, Turkish, Kyrgyz, Turkmen, and Uzbek.
The creators view the film not only as an adaptation of stories about a popular folklore hero, but also as a collaborative cultural project. The creators intend to use the familiar image of Molla Nasreddin to convey the shared traditions and worldviews of the region's peoples.
Director, screenwriter, production designer, producer, and founder of Bazelevs, Timur Bekmambetov, previously worked on an animated film project about Khoja Nasreddin.
