Uzbekistan and the US Explore Collaborative Labor Migration Initiatives

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.uz) — Behzod Musaev, the Director of the Migration Agency of Uzbekistan, met with Jonathan Henick, the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the United States to Uzbekistan.

The discussion focused on enhancing collaboration in legal labor migration and launching pilot projects aimed at employing Uzbek citizens.

During the meeting, the Uzbek representatives shared updates on the enhancement of their labor migration system to align with international standards, the diversification of foreign labor markets, the preparation of candidates for overseas employment, and initiatives to safeguard the rights and legal interests of migrant workers.

Significant emphasis was placed on the execution of pilot projects for the employment of Uzbek citizens within the US agricultural sector, which includes the processing of necessary documentation.

Ambassador Henick highlighted the necessity for thorough preparation of participants in legal labor migration programs. He stated that candidates should be fully informed beforehand about their work location, living and working conditions, potential costs, available support, and the terms regarding their return to Uzbekistan.

The US delegation also advised ensuring meticulous processing of documents in line with established requirements and conducting preliminary assessments of candidates' visa and migration histories.

At the conclusion of the meeting, both parties agreed to foster cooperation between the Migration Agency and the US Embassy's consular service. This collaboration will facilitate information sharing and the coordination of employer interviews and document submissions in advance.

Both sides expressed their shared commitment to progressively developing cooperation in legal labor migration through these pilot initiatives.
