Uzbekistan and UNICEF discussed social protection strategy

On September 3, a meeting was held at the Ministry of Economy and Finance of Uzbekistan between Deputy Minister Otabek Fazilkarimov and UNICEF representatives, during which the development of the country's Adaptive Social Protection Strategy was discussed.

The discussion was also attended by representatives of the World Bank and the National Agency for Social Protection, as well as international and national consultants.

The parties reviewed key approaches to preparing the strategy, which provides for improving mechanisms of social support for the population, taking into account climatic, natural, and economic risks.

Particular attention was paid to increasing the resilience of households to various risks and improving mechanisms for the timely provision of social assistance. The parties also discussed the development of interagency cooperation in the field of adaptive social protection.

Following the meeting, further directions of work on the document were determined. In particular, it is planned to conduct consultations with stakeholders and study international experience.

In addition, emergency situations, as well as natural and climatic risks that require special attention in Uzbekistan, and corresponding response mechanisms are to be identified.

Following the meeting, the parties agreed to continue joint work on the Adaptive Social Protection Strategy and the further improvement of social support mechanisms for the population.
