The Ministry of Agriculture of Uzbekistan and a UC Berkeley professor discussed the digitalization of agriculture, AI technologies, education, and innovation.

Uzbekistan and the University of California, Berkeley (UC Berkeley) held talks on the prospects for developing artificial intelligence in the agricultural sector.
According to the Ministry of Agriculture of Uzbekistan, Minister Ibrohim Abdurakhmanov met with UC Berkeley Professor Yahyo Tabesh. During the meeting, the topics discussed included the implementation of AI in agriculture, the digitalization of the industry, and the development of innovative education.
Yahyo Tabesh, a senior fellow at the AMENA Center for Entrepreneurship and Development at UC Berkeley and a researcher in artificial intelligence, presented the potential for applying AI technologies in the agricultural sector. The parties discussed the prospects for developing decision support systems and the use of smart technologies for data-driven agricultural management.
Particular attention was paid to expanding cooperation with UC Berkeley in education and research. Proposals included inviting professors and experts from the university to Uzbekistan, organizing practical training for students and local specialists, and launching joint educational and research programs.
A preliminary conceptual approach for the creation of an artificial intelligence innovation park was presented at the meeting. AI technologies within this initiative are expected to find application in agricultural technology, industry, energy, logistics, and other priority areas. It was also proposed to create an educational and practical environment for the implementation of innovative projects.
Meeting participants also discussed the training of specialists in the context of the development of artificial intelligence. Yahyo Tabes emphasized the importance of combining technological knowledge with the development of creativity, ethical thinking, humanism, and imagination.
One of the key approaches considered by the parties was the use of artificial intelligence to enhance human capabilities, rather than replace them.
In this regard, the parties discussed the introduction of modern methods in agricultural education based on project-based learning, practical problem-solving, and the development of creative thinking.
