Uzbekistan and Turkmenistan held talks on expanding transport links

Representatives of Uzbekistan and Turkmenistan held a meeting to discuss developing transport and logistics cooperation and creating more favorable conditions for shipping companies.

The talks took place on August 13 with the participation of Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Turkmenistan to Uzbekistan Shadurdy Meredov and representatives of Uzbekistan's transport and logistics sector.

Participating in the discussion were Bekzod Kholmatov, Director of the Center for the Study of Transport and Logistics Development Problems, employees of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Association of International Road Carriers of Uzbekistan, and representatives of national carriers and freight forwarding companies.

A key issue was simplifying procedures for drivers and carriers. The parties discussed the possibility of introducing electronic visas for drivers, optimizing the payment system, and improving the operation of the Farab-Alat border crossing point.

The participants also discussed ways to reduce queues and waiting times at the border.

Particular attention was paid to the development of transport corridors. Proposals included creating a dedicated corridor for perishable goods, constructing a second bridge in the neutral zone, and increasing road and rail traffic through the port of Turkmenbashi.

Furthermore, the parties discussed revising current weight and size restrictions and resuming direct air service between the two countries.

The Turkmen side expressed its readiness to consider all proposals and submit them to the relevant government agencies for review.

Following the meeting, the parties agreed to continue working together to further strengthen transport and logistics ties and create more favorable conditions for carriers from Uzbekistan and Turkmenistan.
