Uzbekistan and South Korea discuss localization of railway spare parts production

Uzbekistan and South Korea discussed the issue of localization of railway spare parts.

On August 10, Deputy Minister of Transport of Uzbekistan Ilhom Abdugafarov met with President of the South Korean company Sampyo Railway Co., Ltd. Yu Hee-chul as part of the Uzbekistan-Korea business roundtable.

The meeting considered the issues of localization of production of spare parts necessary for railway transport in Uzbekistan. Attention was also paid to the issue of involving qualified specialists from South Korea in the process of studying the requirements and standards established in the regulatory legal and technical documents adopted in the country.

The parties agreed to further develop cooperation in this area, accelerate the implementation of the project and determine specific measures. It was noted that the cooperation will serve to expand local production in the railway sector, produce import-substituting products, and strengthen practical ties in the transport sector between Uzbekistan and South Korea.

Sampyo Railway Co. It is one of the leading manufacturers of spare parts, reinforced concrete sleepers, rails and switchgear for South Korea's railway infrastructure.

Earlier, it was reported that Minister of Transport Ilhom Mahkamov met with Wang Jinxi, Member of the Board of Directors of the China State Railways Corporation, Vice Chairman, and discussed the implementation of the China-Kyrgyzstan-Uzbekistan railway project and prospects for cooperation in the transport sector. According to the Ministry of Transport, during the talks, cooperation in the transport sector between Uzbekistan and China, as well as the progress of the construction of the strategically important China-Kyrgyzstan-Uzbekistan railway project, were reviewed.
