Uzbekistan and China Forge Agreements on Intellectual Property Cooperation

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.uz) — Muzraf Ikramov, the Deputy Minister of Justice of Uzbekistan and Head of the National Intellectual Property Authority, held discussions with Shen Changyu, the Commissioner of the China National Intellectual Property Administration (CNIPA), during the 68th series of Assemblies of the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) in Geneva.

The talks focused on enhancing bilateral collaboration in the legal protection of intellectual property, which encompasses patents, trademarks, and industrial designs.

Significant emphasis was placed on training personnel, sharing experiences, and refining the patent examination process. The Chinese representatives expressed their commitment to continue offering practical assistance in training and enhancing the skills of Uzbekistan's state patent examiners as part of the Belt and Road Initiative.

As a result of the meeting, the Ministry of Justice of Uzbekistan and the China National Intellectual Property Administration formalized their partnership by signing a Memorandum of Understanding aimed at cooperation in intellectual property, along with a Memorandum to implement the Patent Prosecution Highway (PPH) fast-track patent examination program.

These agreements outline plans for collaboration in areas such as patents, trademarks, and industrial designs, enhancing the qualifications of state patent examiners and specialized professionals, executing the PPH mechanism, broadening the network of Technology and Innovation Support Centers (TISC), aiding in the commercialization of intellectual property, and advancing the national innovation ecosystem.

The Ministry of Justice highlighted that the execution of these agreements will bolster the strategic partnership between Uzbekistan and China, foster innovative endeavors, expedite technology transfer, and enhance long-term collaboration in the intellectual property sector.
