The US has pulled all of its bombers out of RAF Fairford, the British military base that was at the centre of an incident last weekend.

A statement from a US department official said on Sunday that all of the bombers had been removed from the base and sent back to their home stations in America.

No reason was given for the withdrawal, but it comes after a major incident on 27 September, when police were alerted to three "suspicious vehicles" near the airbase in Gloucestershire.

Five men were first arrested on suspicion of terror offences near the base and later released on police bail. A sixth man was also subsequently arrested and released on bail.
