US approves $5 billion sale of aerial bombs to Saudi Arabia

The US has approved the sale of $5 billion worth of aerial bombs to Saudi Arabia

The US Department of State has approved the sale of precision-guided aviation munitions worth approximately $5 billion to Saudi Arabia. This was reported on the department's website.

The deal in question involves JDAM-ER type munitions. This system allows conventional aerial bombs to be precisely guided to targets and increases their strike range.

The total value of the potential deal is estimated at $5 billion. Its main contractor is expected to be the Boeing company.

According to the notification sent to the US Congress, Saudi Arabia requested to purchase more than 10,000 aviation munitions and JDAM guidance kits. The package includes 5,004 aerial bombs weighing approximately 227 kilograms and 5,000 heavy bombs weighing approximately 907 kilograms. They are intended to be equipped with precision guidance modules.

The delivery package also includes FMU-139 fuzes, DSU-38 and DSU-40 laser and optical target sensors, containers, spare parts, as well as maintenance and logistical support.

In addition, the US Department of State has approved the sale of another $750 million worth of AGT-1500 engines to Saudi Arabia. These engines are used in M1 Abrams tanks. The main contractor for this deal will be the Honeywell company.

The US also approved several large military packages for Saudi Arabia in early 2026.

On January 30, the Department of State authorized the potential sale of 730 Patriot PAC-3 MSE missiles and related equipment to Saudi Arabia for $9 billion. On February 3, another potential deal worth $3 billion was approved for the maintenance and support of Saudi Arabia's F-15 fighters.
