Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's speech at the UN General Assembly in New York was accompanied by dozens of delegates walking out of the hall, while protests took place in the city center.

At the very beginning of his speech, Netanyahu reacted to the departure of the country representatives, calling those who left the hall "moral cowards." He went on to defend Israel's actions and stated that the country would continue to defend itself.

In addition to the demonstrative walkout from the hall, Netanyahu's speech was accompanied by street protests in midtown Manhattan. Several pro-Palestinian organizations held rallies in different areas of the city, in which more than 1,250 people participated. Police detained about 100 demonstrators, The New York Times reports.

Among those detained were actresses Susan Sarandon and Hannah Einbinder, as well as several political allies of New York Mayor Zohran Mamdani, who has criticized Netanyahu.
