The command of the Third Army Corps of the Ukrainian Ground Forces announced that the Ukrainian military is conducting a counteroffensive operation in the northern part of the Donetsk oblast. This was reported by the commander of the corps, Brigadier General Andriy Biletsky, in a special video message.
The Armed Forces of Ukraine have named this operation "Vivaldi". Biletsky said that as part of this offensive, the Third Corps "cleared of infiltration" a number of settlements in the Lyman direction – the surroundings of Novoselivka, Oleksandrivka, Yarova, Koroviy Yar, and also Srednye was liberated. In general, the Armed Forces of Ukraine cleared 75 square kilometers of territory and liberated another 10 square kilometers of area from Russian troops, and also "dealt a devastating blow to the combat capability of the 20th and 25th armies of the Russian Federation."
Biletskiy said that at this stage of the operation, Russian troops lost about one and a half thousand soldiers (possibly including the wounded), more than 12 thousand drones, hundreds of armored vehicles, artillery systems and automotive equipment. Also, according to him, Ukrainian drones have cut off the enemy's logistical routes.
"There is a lot of information in open sources that the ultimate goal of our offensive actions now is to reach the banks of the Chornyi Zherebets River. But our operation is called 'Vivaldi'. And Vivaldi, as is known, consists of four seasons. And this is only the first season," said the commander of the Third Corps.
Biletskiy called for compliance with the "information silence regime" and promised that reports on the operation would be provided in official sources. The counteroffensive operation of the Armed Forces of Ukraine in the Donetsk oblast has been going on for several months, but before this, it had not been officially announced. The ultimate goal of this operation is also unknown.
Liman is a strategically important city located about a hundred kilometers north of the Russian-occupied city of Donetsk. Russian troops captured this city in May 2022, but the Armed Forces of Ukraine regained control over the city as early as October of that year. At the beginning of the summer of 2026, the troops of the Russian Federation tried to capture Lyman by storm again, but failed to achieve this.
