Ukraine Strikes Wildberries, Russian Book Market

On the night of August 16, Ukrainian drones attacked 16 Russian regions and Crimea. According to the Russian Defense Ministry, air defense systems intercepted a total of 822 drones.

Five people were killed in the attack in the Rostov region. According to the head of the region, Yuri Slyusar, air defense forces shot down more than 150 drones and missiles in three cities and nine districts of the region.

As a result of the drone strike in Podolsk, a warehouse of Wildberries in the Koledino industrial park caught fire. This is at least the second time that this complex has been attacked. The previous attack occurred on July 20. At that time, the company reported that there were no injuries among the employees and that the complex continues to operate normally. Now, the company's press service has reported that the logistics chain has been reorganized due to the fire at the facility.

Ukrainian monitoring channels have released videos showing the scale of the fire in the warehouse and the thick smoke rising. According to the Ukrainian Defense Ministry, the country's armed forces have put seven of Wildberries' 10 largest logistics centers out of action, and the warehouse in Koledino was the largest in terms of area - 250,000 square meters. The "Agentstvo" publication also wrote that the warehouse in Koledino became Wildberries' largest logistics center after the complex in Elektrostal burned down in July.

A fire broke out in a warehouse storing medicines after a Ukrainian drone attack in Domodedovo. The head of the district, Yevgenia Khrustaleva, said the fire was contained, but the warehouse, which covered an area of 56,000 square meters, was destroyed.

An 83-year-old man was killed and at least three others were injured in a nighttime attack in the Moscow region. Three people were also injured in the Moscow Ring Road (MKAD) area (Sobyanin reported this, but did not give details).

In Kiev, the book market around the Pochaina metro station was hit. Several rows of trading pavilions were burned as a result of the attack. Other shops selling textiles, jewelry, clothes and shoes were also damaged. The entrance to the metro station was also damaged, Suspilne TV reported.

The bookstore had been there for about 30 years. Its official opening date was set for March 1, 1997. Initially, the market was called Petrovka, after the metro station of the same name, but it was later renamed as part of decommunization. "Nobody had anything left... Everything burned down. Foreign language [textbooks] for schoolchildren were sold. We were waiting for September so that everyone could get textbooks... But this happened," Natalya Hromadske, the owner of a bookstore that was hit by the attack, told the publication.

In Krivoy Rog, the ArcelorMittal mining and metallurgical enterprise was hit by a rocket. One person was killed and 13 more workers were injured. The enterprise reported that the attack damaged its main production facilities. Production processes were partially suspended. "We would like to emphasize that our enterprise is a civilian facility in the mining and metallurgical industry," the report said.

Later, the head of the Dnipropetrovsk regional military administration, Oleksandr Ganja, clarified that two people were killed and 14 were injured in the night attack. Of these, 11 were hospitalized.

The Russian Defense Ministry reported that the Fire Point industrial enterprise in Kiev, which produces components, warheads and solid-fuel accelerators for Flamingo cruise missiles, as well as components for attack drones, was hit. It is noted that in Krivoy Rog, the workshops of a metallurgical plant producing rolled steel for the production of weapons and military equipment were targeted. In addition, the Kremenchug oil refinery in the Poltava region was attacked, the Russian military department said.
