UK economy grew faster than expected in July

The economy expanded by 0.4%, official figures show, whereas economists had predicted no growth.

The UK economy expanded more quickly than anticipated in July, according to the latest official figures.

The Office for National Statistics (ONS) said the economy grew by 0.4% during the month, while economists had expected no growth.

That came after growth of 0.3% in June and no growth in May.

The ONS said gains in the services, production and construction sectors helped drive July’s figure.
