Two men jailed for three days after smashing facial recognition camera in Tashkent

Three young men have been identified in connection with the destruction of a facial recognition surveillance camera in the entrance hall of a multi-story building in Tashkent’s Chilanzar district, the Tashkent Police Department’s press service said.

The incident occurred around midnight, it said. Two of the men were born in 2004 and 2005, while the third is a minor. A prevention inspector’s inquiry found that two of them had been drinking alcohol.

An administrative report was prepared under Article 183 (Petty hooliganism) and Article 194 (Failure to comply with the lawful demands of a police officer) of the Administrative Liability Code and submitted to court. The Chilanzar district court for criminal cases sentenced two of the men to three days of administrative arrest each.

A submission has been sent to the Commission on Minors’ Affairs under the Tashkent city administration to consider placing the minor under special supervision.

The man who said he broke the camera expressed remorse. “I deeply regret what I did. It turns out things like this never go unpunished,” he said. “Even if you break a camera, they find you anyway. I apologize to everyone.”
