Two dead after military helicopter crashes in Texas
An Apache military helicopter crashed in central Texas, officials said Wednesday.
A military helicopter crash in central Texas has resulted in two fatalities, authorities have verified.
Both individuals were declared deceased at the site after law enforcement responded to an emergency report at approximately 13:33 local time (18:33 GMT), concerning the crash in fields situated south of Salado village.
The aircraft involved was an AH-64 Apache attack helicopter, stationed at Fort Hood, a significant US Army base located nearby, according to military officials.
Upon arrival, officers discovered the crash and a substantial fire that was "getting out of control very quickly," stated Cliff Coleman, spokesman for the Bell County Sheriff's Office.
An investigation into the incident is currently in progress, and emergency response operations are underway, the US Army confirmed.
Brig Gen Ethan Diven, the acting commanding general of the 1st Cavalry Division, remarked, "Our immediate priority is securing the site and supporting the initial response efforts." He added, "Our thoughts are with the crew and their families as we await further information."
