**Two Chirchik police officers sentenced to six years each over bribe tied to beating case**
A court in Chirchik, in Tashkent province, has handed six-year prison terms to a police team chief and a community policeman for accepting a bribe in exchange for not opening a criminal case over a beating, Daryo reported after examining court records.
The Chirchik city court found the two officers, identified as N.A. and D.R., guilty under Article 210, Part 2, clauses “c” and “g” (Bribery) of the Criminal Code, along with other applicable articles. They were also banned from serving in internal affairs bodies for three years. Both denied the charges, but the court relied on witness statements, phone call recordings and other evidence.
According to the documents, a 28-year-old man was assaulted by a group of people in Chirchik on Feb. 17, 2026. The policeman assigned to handle the case told the victim that the attackers could not even be held administratively liable, the victim testified.
“For what they did, let them at least serve five days in jail. I have three children. What would have happened if I had died then?” the victim said in court.
The policeman then offered to cover his medical expenses and, together with the team chief, demanded $3,000 from those involved in the beating in return for the victim withdrawing his complaint, the court document said. On Feb. 18, one of them borrowed money and gave the division head $2,700. The court found that $1,700 of that amount was shared among the officials.
The victim stated on Feb. 19 that he had no complaints, and on Feb. 28 a decision was made not to open a criminal case. A case was later opened on March 5, and the Investigation Department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs launched an inquiry.
On April 20, the victim appealed to the Tashkent province directorate of the State Security Service. Three days later, during an operational measure, the policeman gave him $300.
It was previously reported that a community officer in Chirchik had been detained for taking a bribe from the leader of a criminal group.
