Turkmenistan sells $1.44mn diesel products to Afghanistan, UAE

Turkmenistan has finalized two agreements totaling $1.44 million for the sale of desulfurized diesel fraction, with businesses from Afghanistan and the United Arab Emirates acquiring the petrochemical product from the nation's international market, as reported by the State Commodity and Raw Materials Exchange of Turkmenistan.

These two transactions were completed on August 21 via the State Commodity and Raw Materials Exchange of Turkmenistan's external market. The purchasers were entrepreneurs from Afghanistan and the United Arab Emirates, and the seller was the state-owned company Turkmenhimiya.

Both contracts involved the provision of desulfurized diesel fraction, a product of Turkmenistan's petrochemical sector. The combined value of these two deals was $1.44 million, according to the State Commodity and Raw Materials Exchange of Turkmenistan.

These recent diesel sales by Turkmenistan occur as fuel trade within Central Asia becomes increasingly significant. Previously, it was noted that Tajikistan substantially increased its fuel imports from Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan, and Kazakhstan in July, reportedly acquiring approximately 34,000 tonnes due to a decrease in Russian fuel deliveries following disruptions at Russian oil refineries.

Turkmenistan was also reportedly being considered as an alternative fuel source for Tajikistan amidst disturbances in global energy markets. On August 6, Tajikistan's Ministry of Transport stated that the government was working to diversify fuel supplies, with Kazakhstan identified as a primary supplier and discussions also ongoing with Turkmenistan, Iran, and Belarus.
