The newspaper noted that this amount is much higher than previously estimated, and the work will be financed from the budget. According to the WP, this is "the most expensive reconstruction of the White House in the last 80 years."

Trump's most famous project in the White House is the construction of a new stateroom for 900 people. This project has caused many lawsuits and disputes. Last week, another US court blocked this construction plan until Congress decides whether to continue or stop construction. Other projects include the renovation of Lafayette Square, a helipad, and a new visitor screening center.

The WP reported that the Trump administration has not sought Congressional approval for most of the construction work, as it should have. Instead, it has raised money from government agencies and private investors and then transferred the funds to a special account managed by a department set up for this purpose. According to the WP, at least $500 million has been transferred to this account by various agencies, including the Secret Service, and at least $305 million from private donors. This contradicts Trump's previous statements that the funds for his projects have come mainly from private individuals and organizations.
