Trump: Nobel Peace Prize discredited by radical anti-democrats
US President Donald Trump has criticized the Norwegian Nobel Committee, which once again did not award him the Peace Prize. According to him, this decision is shameful and casts a shadow on Norway's reputation.
"The Nobel Peace Prize is forever discredited by a small group of radical ideologues holding anti-democratic views and who are enemies of civilization. We will not forget, Norway, that you did not give this prize (and did not take into account — "Kommersant") the greatest achievements in history," Mr. Trump stated.
The President was also dissatisfied with the choice of the laureate — 85-year-old lawyer and human rights activist from South Africa, Navanethem Pillay. Mr. Trump called her a little-known liberal official from the UN. "I've never heard of this person, I know many people, but I've never heard of her. Congratulations anyway," he said.
The Nobel Committee explained its decision by Ms. Pillay's contribution to the protection of human rights and the development of international law. Over her career, the South African lawyer worked as a judge in international tribunals, served as the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights, and is currently a member of the UN International Court of Justice.
