Trump says US will scale back military drills with South Korea
His decision to reduce the partnership came after South Korea recently declined to aid his war effort in Iran.
Donald Trump announced that the United States intends to "substantially reduce" its joint military exercises with South Korea. He attributed this decision to his "very good relationship" with North Korean leader Kim Jong Un.
In a Truth Social post on Sunday evening, Trump stated, "These exercises are not only costly, with much of these costs paid for by the United States of America (as usual!), but send a signal that is totally inappropriate and hostile."
Trump also mentioned in his post that South Korea recently chose not to participate with the U.S. in the "denuclearisation" of Iran.
Trump has previously deviated from conventional American foreign policy by cultivating a friendship with North Korea's leader, with his last in-person meeting occurring in 2019.
