Trump says Ukraine and Russia have agreed to 'energy ceasefire'

Donald Trump has said that Russia and Ukraine have agreed to an "energy ceasefire" in the war between the two countries.

The US president gave little detail, other than saying it would be "effective immediately". Neither Kyiv nor Moscow has commented so far.

Trump has been pressing Ukraine to stop strikes on Russian oil infrastructure - which Kyiv says are crucial to reducing revenue for Moscow's war machine - so it can carry out a recently agreed deal to release diesel to the US and the global market.

Earlier on Sunday, Ukraine's President Volodymyr Zelensky said he was prepared to stop the strikes if Russia stopped targeting Ukrainian energy infrastructure, attacks that have been increasing ahead of winter.
