US President Donald Trump, in his speech at the UN General Assembly session on Tuesday, announced that the United States could sign a peace treaty with Iran after the midterm elections to be held on November 3.
In his speech, Trump also touched upon the war in Ukraine, the fate of Cuba, and the issue of a new agreement on Greenland, and also proposed renaming artificial intelligence.
"I think we will make a deal [with Iran] immediately after the election, because there is no point in them not making it. They are waiting to see how I do in the midterm elections," Trump said.
The meeting was attended by Trump's special envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner from Washington, and Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi from Tehran. The negotiations, as before, were conducted through mediators.
"Today, within the framework of the UN General Assembly, we held long-term negotiations with the Iranian delegation through mediators who traveled between the parties during the day. This round of negotiations ended successfully, and we hope they will be constructive and promising. The mediators will continue their work," Witkoff wrote later on the social network X.
Donald Trump, speaking from the UN podium, said that he has to make an important decision: to destroy Iran or to make a deal with it.
"I have to make an important decision. Will a deal be made with Iran that will allow the country to be rebuilt and made greater than ever, or do I have to destroy the Islamic Republic so that they cannot kill other people and destroy countries?" said the US President.
"Should we show them real hell, leaving them no chance of survival, depriving them of hope for future greatness and future generations? But I think we will reach an agreement immediately after the election," Trump continued.
Trump called on other countries of the world to support pressure on Iran, and also reiterated that the US prevented Iran from acquiring nuclear weapons by starting a war against it.
