Trump demands compensation from Iran, makes it a condition for talks

US President Donald Trump has said that Iranian officials are demanding compensation for the damage caused to the country in the past five months of military conflict. Trump said that the issue was “never raised” in negotiations or meetings.

“I will now demand compensation from Iran for all the people killed and seriously injured by roadside bombs,” Trump wrote on the Truth Social network.

The US president also mentioned the families of those killed on the USS Cole and “thousands more” who have been killed in the fighting. He also said that compensation should be paid to the families of protesters “who have been killed by Iran over the past 50 years,” as well as to the relatives of the 52,000 people who have been killed in the past five months.

“I have instructed my representatives to include this demand in any future negotiations with Iran,” the US president said.

Iran has linked the possible opening of the Strait of Hormuz to the fulfillment of a number of conditions by the United States, including full compensation for the damage caused to Iran. This was announced on August 8 by Mohammad Baqir Zolqadr, Secretary of the Supreme National Security Council of Iran, ISNA news agency reported.

According to him, the strait will not be opened until Washington changes its policy towards Tehran. Zolqadr listed six demands that, in the opinion of the Iranian side, the United States must fulfill.

In addition to compensation, Iran demanded an end to all threats against it and desecration of religious sites, a complete cessation of military operations against Iran and its allies in Lebanon, Palestine, Yemen, and Iraq, the lifting of the naval blockade, the withdrawal of US naval and air forces, the lifting of sanctions, and the unblocking of frozen Iranian assets.
