Trump unveils 'Super Intelligence Force' to oversee AI policy

US President Donald Trump says he has formed a new task force on artificial intelligence, to be headed by Director of National Intelligence Jay Clayton.

Federal Trade Commission Chair Andrew Ferguson and Undersecretary of Defense for Research and Engineering Emil Michael will also serve on the task force.

Trump said last week that he would establish a board to oversee AI safety after leading tech executives signed what he called a "morally binding" pact to regulate the technology.

On 30 September, the president also signed an executive order to rename AI as "super intelligence", after previously saying the word artificial made the technology sound "fake".

Some leading tech figures have already begun adopting the new term, including multi-billionaire Elon Musk, who said on social media that he will rename his firm's AI platform SpaceXAI as SpaceXSI.
