Travis Kelce has shared his initial thoughts on his wedding to Taylor Swift, describing their New York ceremony as "the best night of my life" to US media.
The American football player and the acclaimed singer exchanged vows on July 3rd at Madison Square Garden in New York, in a star-studded yet largely private affair. Few details about the event have been made public, and Kelce's remarks on Wednesday represent his first extensive comments since the couple was married by comedic actor Adam Sandler.
Speaking to reporters at the Kansas City Chiefs' training camp in Missouri, Kelce stated, "It was kind of cool to live out my childhood dream of being in that venue, the mecca of all sports venues, being able get married there." He reiterated that the wedding was "the best night of my life," expressing gratitude to the attendees and calling it "a crazy night."
The NFL star and the award-winning singer have maintained a high level of privacy regarding their wedding, with no official photographs of the stadium ceremony released. A host of Hollywood A-listers were present, including actors Hugh Grant and Jason Sudeikis, singer Benson Boone, and model Gigi Hadid.
Kelce mentioned his past desire to attend a New York Knicks basketball playoff game last year, but he had other commitments. The Knicks ultimately secured the NBA championships for the first time in nearly six decades. "My wife went when I was stuck in a mini camp so I didn't get my opportunity to go then," he said, publicly referring to Swift as his wife for the first time. She was courtside for Game 4 of the NBA Finals, where the Knicks achieved a surprising 107-106 victory against the San Antonio Spurs.
"I can't thank the owners of MSG for allowing us to get the opportunity to do that, knowing that we wanted a private event and everything, and it was perfect," he added. He later quipped that the "AC was cooking" inside the venue, seemingly alluding to the heatwave that affected the country during the Independence Day weekend.
The couple's nuptials were kept under wraps, despite the event causing a partial shutdown of New York City, the most populous city in the US. Kelce noted that "it was a fun off-season" but expressed his eagerness to return to training and American football. Kelce, who will turn 37 in October, has secured three Super Bowl championships with the Chiefs. The team missed the NFL playoffs last year for the first time in a decade. While many speculate that the upcoming season, starting next month, could be his last, the tight end has not indicated any plans for retirement.
"I have still got a lot of love for this game," he affirmed. "I want to go out there and prove to myself that I can play at a better level than I did last year." He described being back on the field as his "sanctuary." "You need to have this time of grinding with the guys, being around them all day, starting to create that chemistry and standard for how we are going to do things. This year it's ramped up even more."
