Tokayev orders removal of "fake heroes" and fabricated feats from textbooks

Kazakhstani President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev has ordered a review of educational materials containing unreliable historical information. According to him, schoolchildren should not be taught legends about heroes and events that did not exist, Exclusive.kz reported.

The head of state recalled that the government had previously reported that more than 700 gross errors had been identified in school textbooks. According to the president, such shortcomings can have a serious negative impact on the quality of education.

"Children are being told legends about some fictional heroes and their feats that did not actually exist. Raising children in the spirit of patriotism by spreading false, falsified information will inevitably undermine the spiritual core of our people," the president said.

Tokayev stressed that patriotic education should not be based on distorting historical facts. He said that young people should correctly understand the history of their people and at the same time look to the future with confidence.

The president also called on Kazakhs to abandon the image of “always a mourning nation.” He cited the word “mûƒ” (mûƒ), which is widely used in literature and means sadness or longing.

“Some of our writers fell in love with the word mûƒ: I have sadness in my heart, I have sadness in my eyes! Sadness is a bad companion for our youth. I will tell you this for sure,” Tokayev said.

According to the head of state, young Kazakhs should grow up with the belief that “there is no insurmountable task, and difficulties can be overcome.”

"We must be a strong and creative nation. Apathy and depression should be alien to young people," said the president of Kazakhstan.

Earlier, Kassym-Jomart Tokayev criticized the habit of men hugging and kissing, calling for compliance with national etiquette.
