It all started like a traditional wedding in southern Iran: women drew henna on their hands, and children played in the yard. It all came to an end when a bomb dropped by US forces turned the festive evening into a pile of blood-stained carpets.

According to witnesses and local media reports, dozens of guests had already arrived at the Malahi family home in the southern Iranian town of Kuhestak to congratulate the young bride and groom.
On Tuesday, at around 9:30 PM, a bomb was dropped on the wedding.
This bomb was dropped by the US military as part of intense attacks being carried out in southern Iran. The Iranian Red Crescent Society reported that at least five people, including a 6-year-old child, were killed and at least 67 others were injured at the wedding.
Among the guests was a woman named Mutahhara, whose identity was verified by the NYT. On the wedding night, she had posted a selfie on Instagram from the women's henna night that took place the day before.
In her next post, uploaded within an hour after the attack, Mutahhara wrote, "the wedding turned into mourning, and the sweet night became forever bitter."
A video showing the immediate aftermath of the strike depicts a chaotic scene of local residents running hurriedly through destroyed buildings, while medical personnel attempt to extinguish fires by spraying water through hoses in the area.
The publication confirmed exactly where the video was filmed. In particular, landmarks of the area matching satellite imagery proved that the video was indeed filmed on Tuesday evening.

In small towns in southern Iran, weddings are traditionally held in people's homes, and this was the case for the Malahi family as well. Weddings become an event for the entire neighborhood, with men and women gathering in separate houses. It appears that the strikes hit one of the buildings where the wedding was taking place.
