There may be technologies belonging to unknown civilizations on the Moon — scientists

Scientists say that technological traces belonging to potential alien civilizations that existed in ancient times may have been preserved on the surface of the Moon. Researchers hypothesize that small fragments of such technologies may have traveled through interstellar space and reached the Moon.

The results of the study have been published on the arXiv preprint server.

For many years, scientists have been searching space for signs of technological activity from extraterrestrial civilizations. However, no such evidence has been detected so far. The authors of the study suggest that this may be because potential alien civilizations might have already gone extinct.

Nevertheless, there is a possibility that their technological remnants have survived. Scientists consider the Moon to be one of the most promising places to search for such remnants.

This is due to the unique conditions of the Moon. It has neither an atmosphere nor a magnetic field, which is why the lunar surface is constantly exposed to meteorites and streams of microscopic particles coming from the Solar System and beyond.

In addition, there is neither tectonic activity nor liquid water on the Moon. Therefore, particles that fall onto its surface do not disappear over time but can be preserved within the lunar dust.

Researchers hypothesize that among this very dust, there could be tiny fragments left behind by the technological activity of alien civilizations that went extinct long ago.

For example, after the destruction of giant artificial space structures, including Dyson spheres, or spacecraft belonging to alien civilizations, their remnants could have dispersed into interstellar space.

It is hypothesized that microscopic particles made of metal or other artificial materials could have been ejected from star systems inhabited by intelligent civilizations under the influence of powerful stellar winds. They could have traveled across the galaxy for a very long time, eventually entering the Solar System and landing on the surface of the Moon.

According to scientists, if such technological remnants indeed exist, finding them on the surface of the Moon might be relatively easier than on other planets.

However, this currently remains a scientific hypothesis, and there is no evidence that technologies belonging to alien civilizations have been found on the Moon.
