“There is a reason why she burst into tears upon seeing me at her wedding.” Adiz Rajabov on the event that caused discussions and why he does not show his family to the public
Adiz Rajabov, one of the most sought-after actors in Uzbek cinema, who gained fame through films such as “Super Kelinchak” (Super Daughter-in-Law), “O‘zimdan o‘zimgacha” (From Myself to Myself), “Poyma-poy” (Step by Step), and “Farzandim” (My Child), gave an interview to the “Shaxsiy Chegara” (Personal Boundary) project. In the conversation, he spoke about his activity on Instagram, the reason for not showing his family to the public, his relationship with actress Yulduz Rajabova, and not receiving an award from the president alongside his colleagues.
“Wedding services are attended out of necessity”
There is a perception among the public that the actor can only be seen in the cinema or on the theater stage. Where can Adiz Rajabov be encountered?
If you see the actor performing at weddings or hosting events, it means he goes there not just for fun, but out of necessity. This is viewed as work, and through this, he serves the people. How you present yourself and where you set your boundaries is how people will perceive you.
I performed at weddings until 2018-2019, and even then, not much. I filmed more in movies and commercials. The concept of advertising was also completely different back then. During periods when there was a slight lull in cinema — around 2016 — I started working at the “Diydor” theater studio. Alisher Uzoqov, Akbarxo‘ja Rasulov, and Yulduz Rajabova were also there with me. We received a good education under Bahodir Yo‘ldoshev, says Adiz Rajabov.
“I am earning a good income through Instagram”
One can operate while respecting oneself and one's profession. I myself have been actively running my Instagram page for about a year and a half. Since I come from cinema, I have been making film content, film reels, and videos in various thematic columns. Although I choose more exemplary topics, there are also some infused with a bit of humor — while maintaining my face and reputation, and most importantly, without annoying my audience. Everyone makes their own choice. I reap what I sow.
Now, thank God, I earn a good income through Instagram in proportion to my efforts. There are no personal topics at all, because that is my position, says the actor.
“Yulduz Rajabova burst into tears upon seeing me at her wedding”
A video showing actress Yulduz Rajabova bursting into tears when her colleague Adiz Rajabov came to congratulate her at her wedding went viral on social networks. This situation raised questions among observers such as “Why did Yulduz get embarrassed when Adiz arrived? Were they in love before?” Adiz Rajabov also commented on this situation.
— Recently, the wedding of my sister Yulduz Rajabova took place. When I went up to her and congratulated her, she burst into tears. After that, many people had questions like whether they loved each other. No, Yulduz is like a sister to me. She also sees me as her own brother. We experienced the ups and downs of both cinema and theater together. Over time, people become dear to each other. This should not be interpreted as something bad. At that moment, I myself felt strange, like a brother sending off his sister, says the actor.
“I do not create hype around my family”
Adiz Rajabov is one of those artists who do not like to talk about their family. What is this related to?
I am married, I have children. I think that is enough. I do not want to create hype with my family. Honestly, such things annoy me. I understand that the actor's personal life is interesting to the viewer, but my fans respect my decision, says the actor.
“If my children say they want to become artists...”
I can help not practically, but in terms of advice. Because a talented person will stand out anyway. Perhaps my decision will change in five or ten years. But in my current state, I respect my child's choice. Because once upon a time, my parents also supported my interests, says Adiz Rajabov.
“The fact that Uzbek cinema is not developing troubles me greatly”
I wish I knew the exact reason why current Uzbek cinema has fallen into such a state. In my opinion, this is a global trend. If we look at films in Russia, Europe, Bollywood, and Hollywood in general, the level of hits in the 2000s was very high. Out of 100, about 80 would be great films. Now we can say the same about us. If neighboring Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan are shooting good films based on their current conditions, it means they have entered the process. But why we do not have this troubles me greatly. I am trying to bring these things back at least a little in my own territory, that is, on Instagram, says Adiz Rajabov.
“If an award was not given, then it is not my time”
Recently, several art and culture figures were honored with various awards by the president. Was Adiz Rajabov not offended that he was not among his colleagues?
Because the guys worked and served a lot. I was also invited to that event, and I had the opportunity to congratulate them personally there. As for why I was not among them, it means it is not the time, and this is a very normal situation. If a person focuses on the work they are doing and, through this work, inspires someone to reach a better state, how great of a reward that is in itself. So, for now, it is not my turn. Of course, it is very pleasant when every person is rewarded for their work in due time, says Adiz Rajabov.
“I did not achieve fame overnight”
I became known to the public through small steps, my hard work, and my roles. I achieved episodic roles, extras, supporting roles, first-level roles, and after that, the main role. God gives it to someone this way, and to someone else all at once. Someone becomes famous after the age of 45. The role that brought me fame was in Rustam Sa’diyev’s film “Nahotki sen” (Could it be you). And after that, of course, “Super Kelinchak”. My subsequent films were connected to this, says the actor.
