The US has resumed processing immigrant visa applications for some countries

The Donald Trump administration has resumed the processing of immigrant visa applications, but is accepting applications from only two countries - Hungary and Poland.

Meanwhile, the temporary suspension of scheduling immigrant visa interviews for other countries remains in effect.

It is currently unknown why the US specifically singled out Hungary and Poland. In particular, Trump has openly supported Hungary's former Prime Minister Viktor Orbán, as well as Poland's current President Karol Nawrocki, whose election caused a conflict with the centrist government of Prime Minister Donald Tusk.

At the beginning of 2026, it became known that the US Department of State had decided to suspend the processing of immigrant visa applications for citizens of 75 countries, including Uzbekistan. The department advised consuls to deny visas to individuals who might attempt to receive social welfare benefits in the US. This decision by the Department of State was challenged in court. In August, a New York State federal court ruled it illegal and overturned the decision. However, at the end of the month, the Trump administration suspended the processing of immigrant visa applications again to conduct "advanced training" for consular staff.
